WEBINAR: The Role of Runoff and Erosion on Soil Carbon Stocks: From Soilscapes to Landscapes
No dia 27 de Agosto ocorrerá o Webinar intitulado The Role of Runoff and Erosion on Soil Carbon Stocks: From Soilscapes to Landscapes e promovido pela Serviço de conservação dos recursos naturais dos EUA (NRCS).
Segue abaixo a descrição do seminário: Here is a webinar for both the soil scientist who examines those localized processes driving ecosystem processes and carbon dynamics in the soil column, as well as those exploring the soil carbon redistribution process happening along a hillslope or in the watershed. You’ll come away with a better understanding of the dynamicity in different ecosystem processes at different scales and the interactions between these processes. Also, approaches for coupling top down and bottom up methods for SOC and total below carbon allocations predictions will be discussed.

Video: Role of Soil Biology in Improving Soil Quality
Soil as the heart of the farming ecosystem is driven by biological activities to increase soil organic matter, which represents a small percentage of the soil by weight, but controls over 90% of the soil functions. This presentation introduces viewers to the concepts of 1) rhizosphere biology, the area immediately surrounding the plant root with the highest concentration of microbiological activity; 2) soil "livestock" consisting of bacteria, fungi, nematodes, protozoa and microarthropods and representing the greatest concentration of biomass anywhere on the planet; 3) glomalin, a biological glue that holds soil together and improves soil aggregation; and 4) building soil biota to improve soil quality, increase nutrient cycling, and long term sustainability using cover crops, no-till, and other sustainable farming practices.
